Genitive: | Quadrantis Muralis |
Origin: | Joseph Jérôme de Lalande, 1795 |
Joseph Jérôme de Lalande (1732–1807) was a French astronomer, perhaps best known for his work in planetary theory. He proposed several constellations, none of which survive to this day. One, however, has attained a sort of immortality and that is Quadrans Muralis, located in the northern part of Boötes. Every January, the Quadrantid meteor shower takes place, named for the placement of the shower radiant in this now-defunct constellation.
