Your eyesight is precious. Protect it!

Penumbral Lunar Eclipse: 25 March

The eclipse is completely visible from the Americas. The eclipse is in progress at moonrise in New Zealand, Australia and eastern Asia whereas the eclipsed Moon sets in western Africa, western Europe, Iceland and Greenland.

Total Solar Eclipse: 8 April

The path of totality crosses Mexico, the United States and Canada. The partial eclipse is visible from North America (except Alaska), Central America, northern Columbia and the northwestern tip of Venezuela.

The image at the right shows a portion of the sky centred on the Sun at the instant of greatest eclipse. The Sun's disk is drawn to scale but the extent of the corona depends upon the level of solar activity at the time.

The Sun is in the constellation of Pisces. The variable red giant star Mira (ο Cet) is below and to the left. The two brightest stars in Aries, second-magnitude Hamal and third-magnitude Sheratan, are to the upper left.

Sixth-magnitude Mercury is just three days away from inferior conjunction and is positioned between the brighter stars of Aries and the Sun, just 6° away from our star. Brilliant Venus is on the opposite side of the Sun and about 15° distant.
